Job Summary: Responsible for receiving daily meals from food vendors, assisting in the preparation, delivery of the meal service to consumers and cleaning of the kitchen and dining area for the Senior Center Congregate Meal Program. Submit your resume to: luciana.boone@north-city.org

Responsibilities:

  • Fully comprehends, articulates, and reflects in professional practice the mission, vision, and philosophy of North City Congress
  • Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism that is reflected in NCC customer service standards to all senior center members, staff, and customers
  • Provide assistance in the preparation and serving of congregate meals to consumers
  • Conduct daily food temperature tests and documents results
  • Conduct daily monitoring of temperatures of all refrigerated and freezer units
  • Orders and maintains an adequate supply of paper goods and disposable items
  • Order and account for all meals through center caterer
  • Assists in the cleaning of the dining room, kitchen work area, and kitchen equipment to insure that proper sanitary standards are being maintained
  • Operate kitchen equipment in a safe manner
  • Assists in the collection of lunch trays and disposal of trash daily. This includes the dining room, kitchen, and retrieval of all trays used around the facility.
  • Maintain an adequate amount of cleaning supplies to sanitize the kitchen and dining room
  • Prep and drain hot serving table
  • Clean and sanitize hot serving table after every meal. This included the wells, around the top containers including rubber edges
  • Work closely with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure area is kept clean and free of clutter and debris
  • Work closely with Program Specialist, Center Counselor, and center committees in relation to kitchen needs for daily, weekly, monthly, and special activities and events
  • Assist in preparing dining hall for all events (daily, weekly, monthly, and special)
  • Coordinate morning Coffee Hour
  • Coordinate weekly in center Education Nutrition workshops (Wanna Be Chefs, etc) and order accordingly
  • Coordinate monthly Nutrition Education workshops or events (caterer, Divine Sources, local nutritionists, senior boxes, produce vouchers, etc.) from outside presenters and organizations
  • Keep all kitchen and kitchen supply storage areas organized, clean, and clutter free. This includes wiping down walls, cleaning out drawers, under counter tables, all rolling carts, and storage cabinet
  • Bring any issues, complaints, or concerns to the attention of the Center Director in a timely
    manner
  • Provide appropriate documentation for all reports as required
  • Input necessary information into Client by Client system
  • Attend center and funder meetings as needed
  • Notify the Center Director immediately of any signs of pests that require extermination
  • Meet with members and guests to identify any special needs (allergens, etc.)
  • Ensure all food and serving related licenses/permits are current
  • Lead all kitchen audits and reviews
  • Stay current with in center trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Some college or formal education/training preferred
  • One year experience in food service related to job responsibility
  • Prior experience in customer service
  • Physical ability to handler movement and lifting items up to 20 pounds
  • Criminal Background Clearance
  • Serve Safe Certificate or willingness and ability to complete within 6 months of employment

Working Conditions

  • Position hours: Monday-Friday 7am-11 am OR 10:30 am-2:30 pm, with flexibility, understanding
    some meetings/responsibilities may extend past 3 pm
  • Ability to lift and move tables, chairs, and other program equipment
  • Travel to NCC work related meeting and appointments
